Tradition – Apostle Peter

Here’s some background first:

“33Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of You, I never will.”

34“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown Me three times.”

35But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with You, I will never disown You.” And all the other disciples said the same.” (Matthew 26:33 – 35)

It happened:

…”Then he (Peter) began to call down curses, and he swore to them, “I don’t know the Man (Lord Jesus)!”

Immediately a rooster crowed.

Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown Me three times.” And he (Peter) went outside and wept bitterly.” (Matthew 26:74 – 75)

Tradition has it that Christians in Rome urged apostle Peter to escape so that he might serve the church in the world at large,… he (Peter) somehow escaped but was arrested on the way by the One (Lord Jesus) he knew and loved best.

Peter said, “Lord whither art Thou going?”

Christ replied:

“I am come to Rome to be crucified a second time”.

What happened next?

Peter stopped his “escape” and hurried back to martyrdom.

Tradition also has it that Peter requested himself to be crucified head downwards because he felt unworthy to die in the same manner as his Lord did at Calvary.

Tradition has it thus.
True? Interesting regardless.

Tradition taught me one thing though:

“All the apostles of Christ laid down their lives willingly for Him in Love.

They were never forced by God nor did it with ulterior motives such as to glorify themselves but were moved by His Righteous Act at Calvary and were persuaded to emulate Him even in their deaths.”
