Divorced and Remarrying – Missed spiritual Parallels

God’s commands have spiritual parallels in meaning (Colossians 2:17, Hebrews 10:1).

For example, the earthly marriage is to help us understand God’s Marriage to “believers” (Israel, Jeremiah 3:14, Isaiah 54:5 & Gentiles included through Christ, Ephesians 5:32) as His Church (Bride, Ephesians 5:25 – 27, Revelation 19:7 – 9).

Yes, the Bride (Revelation 22:17) is His Church (Ephesians 5:32) which will be gathered in the New Jerusalem which comes down from Heaven somewhere at the end of this age (Revelation 21:2, 9 – 10).

Thus “sexual immorality” spiritually means “idolatry & unfaithfulness” (Jeremiah 3:20, Hosea 3:1, Romans 1:18 – 32) and that’s why God didn’t allow divorce to remarry (Matthew 19:9) & no polygamy either too (e. g. It is written that the “two” shall become “one flesh” via marriage & NOT the ‘three or four or etc. becoming one flesh via marriage’, Matthew 19:4 – 6, Mark 10:6 – 9, Ephesians 5:31, Proverbs 2:17, Malachi 2:14).

In the past, polygamy was allowed but not endorsed by God (Deuteronomy 21:15 – 17, Acts 17:30) and His Commands in New Testament Scripture is clear on it (e.g. singular husband-wife matching commands, proving a man is to have one wife only 1 Corinthians 7:2, Ephesians 5:23).

If prior to believing in Christ, a man has already practiced polygamy, he may remain in that state (1 Corinthians 7:20) but can never take hold of spiritual positions which require a person to be a “husband of one wife only” (1 Timothy 3:2, 1 Timothy 3:12).

Thus, the chief Rabbinical error of not correctly understanding Deuteronomy 24 in the past has crept in into some parts of Christianity too.

Deuteronomy 24 is not teaching that a divorce can remarry but rather describing a case where an ‘unfaithful woman’ leaves her husband (divorce or separated for valid reasons Deuteronomy 24:1) and subsequently goes and marries another man by her own will (Deuteronomy 24:2).

It doesn’t end there. That woman is called “defiled” (Deuteronomy 24:4, in the absolute sense) and not celebrated by the Torah proving that ‘God did NOT approve that remarriage’ and hence warns the ‘first husband NOT to take her back again’ in Deuteronomy 24:4.

Passages need to be read in full to be understood correctly and if God wished to teach ‘divorced-can-remarry’, He would have certainly no need for that prohibition & would have mentioned an option for the divorced-right-first-husband to remarry too which He did NOT in these verses ‘clearly’ (yes, “no” adding to His Word).

Rabbinical Judaism missed this point and Christ Rebuked their ‘divorce-allowed-to-remarry-error’ in the Gospels itself (Luke 16:18, Matthew 5:32). Apostle Paul reiterates and agrees in the same way to Christ’s Commands and details out other cases as well in 1 Corinthians 7. For a detailed discussion of this, please consider:

Thus, to allow divorce to remarry spiritually means that God allows “sexual immorality” (yes, Christ called it equivalent to committing “sexual immorality”, Luke 16:18) or “unfaithfulness” which is certainly a blasphemy though thought & practiced by certain Jews and Christians alike.

Thus Rabbinical Judaism and Christian parts which teach that a divorce can remarry are certainly wrong & are equivalent to teaching ‘spiritually’ (spiritual parallel) that God can divorce ‘His Believers’ (i. e. believing Israel & His Church) and marry another or that having multiple wives (polygamy) means (spiritually) that God can Marry ‘His Church & something else’ which is clearly “blasphemy”.

Due to lack of maturity in understanding spiritual parallels in God’s commands, Rabbinical Judaism erred greatly even in its man-made-laws (e. g. The Talmud) where worst still, pedophilic marriage too is allowed as mentioned in a previous post (you may Google to see it too, a well known fact). Please don’t be deceived by their vain attempt to explain it as there is NO context for pedophilia even in marriage (it doesn’t make it right, ever).

Opponents to the Christian faith especially atheists have often “falsely” claimed that Christianity teaches pedophilia by citing these Talmudic verses (which is actually ‘Judaism only’) which is NOT found in the Bible and NOR it is accepted by Christians as inspired Scripture.

In fact, the Talmud teaches many perverse things even calling our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ with “bad names & lies” & has plenty of “racism” in it which looks upon “non-Jews” (Gentiles) as ‘subhuman’ in many aspects. There are some good quotes from the Talmud too done by the relatively better Rabbis amongst them. You may Google easily to see these well known facts.

Away with such “dirty” Jewish-man-made-teachings which are NOT from the Torah and NEITHER from YHWH (Blessed be His Holy Name). That’s why our Blessed Savior repeatedly warned against the “MAN-MADE perverse doctrines of the Pharisees & Sadduccees” or the like (Matthew 15:9, Matthew 16:12) and apostle Paul warned to “keep away from such Jews, primarily” (Titus 1:10, Titus 1:14, 1 Timothy 4:1, 2 Timothy 4:3, Colossians 2:8, Colossians 2:22).

When we understand Scripture correctly, we understand why God only endorsed Monogamy & not Polygamy in Holy Scripture due to keeping these Deep Spiritual Truths as well.

Where “doctrinal error” is present (Matthew 16:12), our “inside” becomes filled with “dead things, uncleanness, hypocrisy & lawlessness” though ‘outwardly’ we may seem ‘beautiful’ appearing religious as Lord Jesus Christ reveals clearly in Matthew 23:27 – 28.

Here’s a rule for our “prayer” to be “heard” (which is, we must NOT neglect ‘His Perfect Law’):

“He who turns away his ear from listening to the law, Even his prayer is an abomination.” (Proverbs 28:9, NASB)
