Is it Biblical to Celebrate Christmas?
Answer: The First Noel
Explanation:
Noel means song or more accurately, a Carol. The First Noel was sung not by men but by angels on the Night Christ was Born as it is written:
“In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night.
And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;
for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
“This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
And on earth peace and good will toward men.”
When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, “Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us.” (Luke 2:8 – 15)
P/S:
What about an ancient Roman festival dedicated to another god which coincidentally is on Christmas Day too?
It doesn’t matter at all as long as your focus is to celebrate Christ on this Day. You won’t be judged for something which you didn’t intend in your celebration. False accusations will be judged by accordingly.
Why do I celebrate Christmas?
Simple: It is the only celebration that is Good News (Gospel) not just to us (believers only), but also to ‘all’ (beyond a celebration benefitting a particular race, language, people group or creed) —-> so amazingly to include ‘His enemies’ as well, Incredible Saviour of the World!
Even the best among those outside Christianity have testified Greatly about Him:
“A Man who was completely Innocent, offered Himself as a Sacrifice for the Good of others, including His enemies, and became the Ransom of the World. It was a Perfect Act.” – mahatma Gandhi
It’s a choice and not a command in such matters ‘only’ as it is written (freedom given, context):
“One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.” (Romans 14:5)
Comment:
Christ did not command a celebration for His Own Birth, True.
That’s why it’s not a command but a
a choice either way. Please read Romans 14:5 again, thank you
Oh ya, Romans 14:5 is not pointing to any “Jewish” Festivals because it was written to Gentile Roman believers (correct context).
Also, Lord Jesus Christ did NOT command any Gentile to follow Jewish celebrations either which is further affirmed by the early church apostles in Acts 21:24 – 25
