Marriage: Everybody’s Favourite Topic

Points on marriage.

What saith the Scriptures?
(not opinions of men)

1) Marrying is a ‘good’ thing:

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the LORD.” (Proverbs 18:22)

Also,

The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.” (Genesis 2:18)

Adam (‘man’ in the verse above) was ‘alone’ and was given Eve (a ‘helper’) to deal with that. Today, we have “brothers” and hence do “not necessarily” need to “marry” to deal with “loneliness”.

2) “Staying unmarried” is also “good”.

Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do.” (1 Corinthians 7:8)

3) Marrying is to deal with “can’t control one’s self” in this:

But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” (1 Corinthians 7:9)

4) A married person will have “many troubles” in this life (assured):

… But those who marry will face many troubles in this life, and I want to spare you this.” (1 Corinthians 7:28)

5) A married person will be “worried/concerned” about the “things of this world” (his “interests are divided”):

But a married man is concerned about the affairs of this world—how he can please his wife— and his interests are divided. . .” (1 Corinthians 7:33 – 34, first part)

6) An unmarried believer is “concerned” about the “Lord’s things only” (and “free from concern” of worldly things):

I would like you to be free from concern. An unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs—how he can please the Lord.” (1 Corinthians 7:32)

7) To “marry” or “not marry” is a “choice” (not a command):

If anyone is worried that he might not be acting honorably toward the virgin he is engaged to, and if his passions are too strong and he feels he ought to marry, he should do as he wants. He is not sinning. They should get married.

but the man who has settled the matter in his own mind, who is under no compulsion but has control over his own will, and who has made up his mind not to marry the virgin—this man also does the right thing.” (1 Corinthians 7:36 – 37)

8) But to “not marry” is the “better” choice:

So then, he who marries the virgin does right, but he who does not marry her does better.” (1 Corinthians 7:38)

The choice is yours.
Verses speak Truth only.

No “interpretations” were needed because these verses ‘state these facts’ so clearly
(Nothing added/removed) just explained (as it is).

P/S:

Marriage is a thing of this world and is “passing away” (no marriages are forever):

What I mean, brothers and sisters, is that the time is short. From now on those who have wives should live as if they do not;” (1 Corinthians 7:29)

those who use the things of the world, as if not engrossed in them. For this world in its present form is passing away.” (1 Corinthians 7:31)

End.
