More than the charity works or martyrdom itself, it must be done in the “Love” (of God – ‘Agape’) for without it, it’s done for ‘self-exaltation’ (or just “plain selfish reasons”) which may ‘not’ profit (“gain nothing”) when God judges it ‘perfectly’:
