Contentment vs the Love of Money

A chief requirement to acquire the right attitude of “contentment” is to keep one’s life free from the “love of money”:

“Be free from the love of money, content with such things as you have, for he has said, “I will in no way leave you, neither will I in any way forsake you.”.” (Hebrews 13:5)

The evident danger of the “love of money” is this (the verses below can also be a “good checklist” for one to see if the “symptoms” of “Loving money” is present in one’s life as revealed in Holy Scripture):

(i) One is “never satisfied” and the quest for it is “vanity”

“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is vanity” (Ecclesiastes 5:10)

(ii) One becomes pierced with “sorrows” (“no” peace, sadness continually on the inside):

“For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.” (1 Timothy 6:10)

(iii) Those who “love money” will “Hate (the True) God” (there’s “no” middle ground) as the Words of our Blessed Saviour prove as follows:

“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:24)
