Gospel vs Earthly father or family?

“Then He said to another man, “Follow Me.”

“Lord,” the man replied, “first let me go and bury my father.”

But Jesus told him, “Let the dead bury their own dead. You, however, go and proclaim the kingdom of God.”

Still another said, “I will follow You, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to my family.”

Then Jesus declared, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and then looks back is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:59 – 62)

P/S:

A reason?

The Gospel requires such a level of “selfless” duty for the “benefit” of ‘others’ (especially those “not” blood related to you —> true ‘selflessness’) while “family duties” are all ‘self’ (blood related reasons).

In short, the call of the Gospel is “beyond blood-family relations” (true selflessness).
