A Poor Son and a Prosperity Driven Christian Father

A father mocked a son after the son said that he wanted a ‘simple life’ for the ‘Gospel’s sake’.

Here are the rebuttal points:

That son wrote back:

“It’s simple (here are the facts):

1) Your accusations and the “fantasies” which you’ve created in “your carnal mind” are “not” substantiated with “any verses”.

2) Let me ask you something:

“What is it that you want?”

Money & to be rich, right?

It’s really simple. If you want money (or to be rich), you go and earn it for yourself. It’s “not” anybody’s fault if “you don’t get your own selfish desires”.

3) Show me “one verse” that says that I have to ‘obey you’ by “making money for you”. Then, I’ll do it.
In fact, the Bible only teaches ‘obey your parents’ –> with the condition —> “in the Lord”. Your desire to “be rich or wanting money” is “not” in the Lord as the Bible clearly speaks against such a desire as this verse states:

But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.” (1 Timothy 6:9)
Your ‘desire’ which is “not” in the Lord, need “not” be obeyed.

4) ‘Simple life’ is instructed in Scripture. So, don’t bring “condemnation” upon yourself by ‘mocking it’. Here are some verses:
Labour not to be rich: cease from thine own wisdom.” (Proverbs 23:4)

Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.” (Proverbs 30:8)

5) Please don’t try to quote Job or Abraham’s prosperity in wealth ‘out of context’. Here’s the ‘correct context’: Abraham, Job etc were “allowed” to be rich during the Old Testament times but such a state of prosperity (in wealth/ money) is “not” allowed during these “last days” (of the New Testament times) as this verse clearly warns of the consequence for those who disobey:

Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days.” (James 5:3)

6) Next, do you know that it’s a duty of an earthly father to provide ‘houses & wealth’ for their children (before marriage) and “not” the other way around? Here’s that verse:

House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the LORD.” (Proverbs 19:14)

Note that the context of the verse above is marriage since:

(i) It says first that ‘houses & wealth’ are to be inherited from ‘fathers’ (not the other way around).

(ii) But, God gives from prudent wife (“not” the parents give a prudent wife) —> for marriage.

Your failure to provide a house for your son is ‘your failure’ because you weren’t wise enough to understand Biblical verses correctly prior to “having kids”.

Only one who understands the Bible (that’s why it’s instructed to get wisdom first) understands that one should only have as many kids as one can provide (not the other way around fantasies of this world which are “not” found in Scripture).

7) Don’t be ungrateful.

You have a pension until you die (which your sons can use to take care of you and your wife till you die). What’s there to worry or be greedy when the “need” is met?

God doesn’t answer “greed”.

8) Can you see who is “at fault” actually?

Still wondering ‘why’ God is “not” hearing any of your ‘selfish prayer requests’ etc?

Because: “no verses” support you.

I repeat, provide a “Bible verse-backed” statement to prove your thoughts right because if ‘not’, you’re insulting God.

Let it be known today that I’m “not” at all interested in “your desire” nor “your worldly” driven “agendas”. These are all “not” in the Lord and the Bible forfeits me to ‘obey you’ in all these ‘deceptions of this world’.

9) You’re becoming the ‘seed’ that’s choked by the ‘cares of this world’ (Beware! —> Do read this verse below carefully and see how it fits your state and desires well –> in short, such a pursuit is “not” the Will of God):

The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 13:22)”

End.

If someone asks:

“Will God make a man go against his father?”

Answer:

I have come to set a man against his father, …” – Lord Jesus Christ (Mathew 10:35)
