All things are possible when one believes

Literal interpretation

What does Christ the Lord mean when He says in the verse below:

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” (Mark 9:23)

Does Christ imply that if I believe that I can turn into a Unicorn, then it will be so? I don’t think so (literally).

Why?

Simple: Our Lord is emphasizing the “all things” which are possible by a “believing one” to be:

1. The “all things” found in “His Word” (the “Bible”). Since the “possibility” of me turning into a Unicorn is non – Scriptural (not found in the Bible), thus this is impossible.

2. The “all things” are the ones according to “His Will”. Since turning into a supernatural unicorn is not His Will (for if it is so He would have revealed it plainly), thus again such a thing is impossible.

An interesting literal implication of the two facts above is that the “all things” being “reconciled to God” (Colossians 1:20) or that the “World being saved by Him” (1 John 4:14) and also that He “Will have all men to be saved” (1 Timothy 2:4) being the “Saviour of all men” (1 Timothy 4:10) are all “possible” by “Him” when one “believes”.

These are the “all” or “all things” which are “possible” to one who “believes” but it will of course, be accomplished or done by “Lord Jesus alone”.

He didn’t ask us to save the world, but rather to “believe in Him” that He is the “Saviour of the world” (1 John 4:14). What we have to do is to preach this Truth of the Gospel (the Good News that Christ has born, died & resurrected to be the Saviour of the World sent by the Father).

That’s why Lord Jesus literally said that to “do the work of God” is to “believe” in “Him” (Lord Jesus) whom “He” (The Father) has sent as the verse below declares plainly:

Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the One He has sent.” (John 6:29)
