“And when they came to the place that is called The Skull, there they crucified him, and the criminals, one on his right and one on his left. And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23:33-34)

Even in Maximum Pain,

He even thought about “His enemies” who caused Him pain, by requesting “forgiveness” (instead of unending vengeance upon them). This is His “final intent” beyond Judgment as it is written,

“Mercy shall triumph over Judgment” (James 2:13)

*even to the “one who has shown no mercy” as the context of the verse in James 2:13 implies when read in full.

P/S:

Since Mercy shall triumph over Judgment (being greater), both Mercy (from which Salvation is obtained) & Judgment cannot be of the same duration of eternity. The former (Mercy) will last eternally being greater while Judgment temporal (lesser, to the age or ages, at most – fulfilling its purpose).
