What is Speaking Truth in Love?

Less Emphasized Traits of Love with regards to truth and doctrine as verses below reveal:

(i) Love only rejoices with the truth

“Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13:6)

*Thus Love is glad when Truth is Preached too.

(ii) Pretending to be nice when we know something is wrong or loving secretly is not good

“Open rebuke is better than secret love.” (Proverbs 27:5)

*Thus, openly rebuke especially errors in doctrine for Scripture is given for reproof and rebuke (2 Timothy 3:16)

(iii) “Speaking the Truth in Love” is best done “with verses” correcting or “rebuking us” because if so, it is independent of our ‘human opinions’ which are usually ‘from self-not reliable’; Thus Scripture exhorts “rebuking using Scripture!”

“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,” (2 Timothy 3:16)

(iv) There is ‘no true love without truth’

Yes, ‘speaking the truth in love’ (verse 15 below) only happens when ‘we are not tossed by false doctrines’ (meaning in verse 14) emphasising the “importance of correct doctrine” to achieve that as it is written:

“As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;
but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,” (Ephesians 4:14 – 15)
