The Money Trap – Those who desire to be rich are ensnared

A quote reads:

‘Chasing after money while claiming to serve Jesus didn’t work out too well for Judas’

Kinda true…

The Bible prohibits “desiring to be rich” but “if it happens, it happens”. Here are those New Testament verses:

(i) Prohibiting believers from “desiring to be rich”

“But those desiring to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and many foolish and harmful desires, which plunge men into ruin and destruction.” (1 Timothy 6:9)

(ii) But “if it happens, it happens” and the ‘command’ for ‘rich believers’ to live by is (briefly):

“Instruct the rich in the present age not to be high-minded, nor to have hope in the uncertainty of riches, but on God, the One richly providing us all things for enjoyment; to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous in distributing, ready to share, treasuring up for themselves a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is indeed life.” (1 Timothy 6:17 – 19)
