What is Love?

Someone remarked (in error) that “Love is the absence of Judgment”.

Truth is:

God is Love” (1 John 4:8) .

Love is not the absence of Judgment but that God chooses to “forgive” despite one deserves “more Judgment”.

P/S:

The absence of Judgment is “injustice”.

For example, suppose a criminal raped and killed a young woman. If there is ‘absence of judgment’ (no punishment) and he walks away like that, that’s injustice. Would one agree to that kind of justice if it was one’s own family member? The absurdity is obvious.

The criminal will be served his appropriate sentence by God (that’s justice). However, His Love demands that the punishments also lead to a ‘change’ in the criminal (that’s reformative).

In the end, Love heals the criminal ‘after he has paid his last penny’ for his acts accordingly but as a ‘new creation’ (the ‘old is gone’) and that’s how “God is Love” even in His Judgments (which are all Purposeful):

Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court. Do it while you are still together on the way, or your adversary may hand you over to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and you may be thrown into prison. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:25 -26)

P/S:

Love is not God; Love is the attribute that best describes God.
God is greater than Love itself.
