Who is Jesus?

Who is Jesus?

A Beautiful Question in Verse below:

“But what about you?” Jesus asked. “Who do you say I am?” (Matthew 16:15)

He is the ‘Anointed One’, the ‘Messiah’, the ‘Christ’ and much more:

“Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:16)

Various Titles of Jesus Christ

– His Pre-eminence in All Things –

These names do not speak about creation but rather of Lord Jesus Christ Who has pre-eminence (first place) in all things.

“He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything.” (Colossians 1:18)

(i) He is Pre-Existent

Creation began from the “Beginning” mentioned in Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” (Genesis 1:1)

Christ existed before the beginning of the “world” (‘heavens & the earth’) or creation itself:

“And now glorify Me, You Father, with Yourself, with the glory that I had with You before the world existed.” (John 17:5)

“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:17)

Firstborn over All Creation

“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.” (John 1:10)

(v) He is Uncreated

Speaking of Jesus Christ

“Without father, without mother, without genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, but made like the Son of God, He remains a priest perpetually.” (Hebrews 7:3)

In analogy (‘likeness’) to the ‘physically known Melchizedek’:

“And it is yet more abundantly evident if another priest according to the likeness of Melchizedek arises, who has been constituted not according to a law of a fleshly commandment, but according to the power of an indestructible life.” (Hebrews 7:15 – 16)

(vi) He is the Word of God, God Himself

“He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.” (Revelation 19:13)

And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it.

Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it;
