The Leech Mentality
Let us Be Careful of such a dangerous attitude.
‘Those who are of such often think that they are worth it and thus keep demanding more and more & are never satisfied’ (it is a cursed state to be in – verse in picture).
Pray that God helps us repent of such thoughts and we remain ‘content’ (satisfied with whatever we have, be it little or much):
“I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.” (Philippians 4:12, NASB)
Such right attitude of enjoying good times or enduring the bad times is NOT against blessings but is the ‘real’ meaning of ‘I can do all things through Christ’ as the ‘next’ verse (context) literally states:
“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13, NASB)
There is no such thing as ‘faith for prosperity’. The Bible teaches us to have ‘faith regardless of prosperity or of poverty’ (true faith which is independent of any circumstances). Very difficult indeed.
Conclusion
“But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.” (1 Timothy 6:6, NASB)
P/S:
Christians should “NOT desire” to be “rich” (yes, ‘desiring to be rich’ is a wrong thought though commonly preached from the pulpits too) as ‘it is warned’ in verse below (a wrong mindset exposed):
“But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a snare and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge men into ruin and destruction.” (1 Timothy 6:9, NASB)
Being rich for a Christian should come naturally from our secular work as we faithfully keep doing our work as we ought to. The correct mindset is set to do the work (any work) for the Lord and not for men regardless of the outcome (e.g. whether or not if it makes us rich or not, the correct Biblical mindset as the verse below reveals too):
“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,” (Colossians 3:23, NASB)
Christians who disobey this end up becoming like the ‘choked seed’ which ‘never mature’ as our Blessed Saviour describes as follows:
“The seed which fell among the thorns, these are the ones who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with worries and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to maturity.” (Luke 8:14, NASB)
Abundant Life never refers to material or financial prosperity but a ‘spiritual life which is rich in faith’ regardless of the circumstances as the verse below negates this famous man-made-not-found-in-Scripture-definition which is commonly preached from the pulpits too:
“Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Luke 12:15, NASB)
