Only the Bible as Infallible Inspired Scripture
Why His Scripture above all else for Written Truth?
(i) Opinions versus Scripture
‘Regarding Theology, I don’t believe in theories of man; I believe in Scripture only because it’s entirely from God’ – Unknown
Each man follows an opinion but let it not be above Scripture; Men follow opinions which are their own or those passed down in their respective cultures, religious traditions or even parents too.
However, it is Best to Obey Holy Scripture because ONLY SCRIPTURE as IT IS WRITTEN is INDEPENDENT of anyone’s OPINIONS.
The World wasn’t created by the opinions of man but by the Word of God:
“But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” (2 Peter 3:7)
(ii) Hold Fast to the Word of Life
“so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world,
holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.” (Philippians 2:15 – 16)
(iii) Human opinions will eventually end but His Scripture will be Fulfilled (time-period)
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 24:35)
“For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.” – Lord Jesus Christ (Matthew 5:18)
“Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’;” (Isaiah 46:10)
(iv) Believing Scripture without Christ is Prohibited
The meaning is not to ignore Scripture but rather not rejecting Christ whilst doing so:
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have age-during life; it is these that testify about Me;
and you are unwilling to come to Me so that you may have life.” – Lord Jesus Christ (John 5:39 – 40)
(v) “You” —> learned —> Sacred Writings —> Wisdom —-> Salvation —> Faith —> Christ Jesus
(please notice each of the word above occurring in verses below):
“You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them,
and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 3:14 – 15)
Notice that apostle Paul advices Timothy (“you”) to ‘stick to Holy Scripture (‘Sacred Writing’)’ as part of the process needed for Spiritual growth toward Salvation.
Don’t worry about others who didn’t have Scripture or those who are against Scripture as apostle Paul still requests Timothy to stick to Scripture long before even his letters were compiled as Inspired writing in the Bible as we know it today.
(vi) Nothing Else Matters
We will be “persecuted” if we emulate a “Scripture-obeying godly life” as “it is written” below but that’s ‘normal’ (expected) as revealed beautifully in verses below:
“Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived” (2 Timothy 3:12 – 13)
The ‘context’ that ‘living a godly life’ mentioned in verse above includes the usage of “inspired Scripture” as a primary source is clearly seen with the following ‘subsequent verse’ (three verses later) clearly ‘mentioning’ this vital aspect ‘as it is written’:
“All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16 – 17)
Thus, we are never “adequate” if we don’t obey “inspired Scripture” as “it is written” (implied) by the verse above.
