“Shameful” at church
“and if they wish to ask questions, they should ask their own husbands at home. For it is shameful for women to speak at a Church assembly.” (1 Corinthians 14:35)

They’re “not” even allowed to ‘ask questions’ at a church assembly.
Opposer: Sounds very much like what the Pharisees and the Saducees will say. Come to think of it, they too were the keepers of the law. Funny how keeping the law kept them constantly at loggerheads with the Christ.
Defender: No verse Opposer, to support your claim otherwise. Simple as that.
Pharisees were “not” obeying His Word.
They went against Christ’s divinity and His authority.
It was “never” the issue of Christ going against the Pharisees because they obeyed the Law (read the Bible correctly/carefully).

Produce a New Testament verse “allowing” women to speak at church.
Simple as that.
Between your “opinions” vs “verses”, sorry but I choose to believe His “verse”.
By the way, the one who wrote that verse above is “not” a Pharisee (as you claimed would ‘say’), but apostle Paul himself who is anointed by His Holy Spirit.
Opposer: The Pharisees were the keepers of the law and one the reasons they disliked Jesus was because He constantly gave a different interpretation of it. In Jesus’s time, ppl were under the Old Testament laws. Laws like ‘do not eat unclean meat’, ‘keep the Sabbath’ etc were taken exactly in context and observed. Jesus however, constantly questioned the heart instead of how well one follows the law. Im not saying Jesus came to break the law, He fulfilled it in fact. He however, gave a new perspective and this, as written in the verses basically pissed the pharisees off. And then they started questioning His divinity and authority.
Defender: Your statement may be applied to ritualistic Old Testament practices only (as even Christ demonstrated & Paul wrote too).
However, you miss the point since the above is a New Testament verse which is “in force” under the current time.
Do you have a “newer Testament” to nullify the “verse” above?
Further, I see “no verse” quoted by you which states otherwise that “women may speak in church”.
That’s the difference.
Hence, I repeat, between your “verseless – opinions” and that “verse”, I choose to believe that “verse”.
You trust the “heart”?
This is what the Bible says regarding all our hearts:
“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)
Hence, let’s stop trusting our “deceitful hearts” and start trusting His “verses”.

If Paul didn’t allow women to ever speak in the congregation, why did he refer to women prophesying in 1 Cor. 11:5?

Speaking & prophesying are different:
How?
Speaking is one talking her own opinion or questions or verses at “your own will” (not allowed in church).
Prophesying is God moving a person to speak His message according to “His Will” being moved by God (allowed in church – even speaking in tongues but with interpreter only).
A verse highlighting this “difference in will during prophecy”?
“for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.” (2 Peter 1:21)
Prophecy & speaking in tongues is “by His Holy Spirit only”. Here’s a proof verse of that:
“When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied.” (Acts 19:6)
Generally speaking, how important is it to do the “Will of God” in all matters to merit entrance into His Kingdom?
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.” (Matthew 7:21)
P/S:
We all transgress knowingly or unknowingly in many ways but He decides to “have mercy on whom He Wills” (‘His Will’ again):
“So then He has mercy on whomever He wills, and He hardens whomever He wills.” (Romans 9:18)
Opposer: I understand that about prophesying, but what is the issue that Paul had that he would say that women should not ask questions in the assembly? What about me asking you questions right now? Is that wrong too, then?
Defender: Not in the assembly (or church gatherings) to maintain order & respect.
I don’t see a prohibition when it’s done outside with the right intention & manner (for example by both of us respecting each other).
