Why sickness or disability?

The answer to any disability or sickness is your attitude towards it; not the problem itself.

The “reason” for a disability or sickness may include the following possibilities:

(1) Due to sin

E.g. Verse: “There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; There is no health in my bones because of my sin.” (Psalm 38:3)

Or, “”So also I will make you sick, striking you down, Desolating you because of your sins.” (Micah 6:13)

(2) Not honouring the Holy Communion ‘rightly’ (whether knowingly or not):

“For those who eat and drink without discerning the body of Christ eat and drink judgment on themselves. That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep.” (1 Corinthians 11:29 – 30)

(3) So that the glory of God may be revealed (if you’re healed of it one day – may take many years before it happens):

“His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

“Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him.” (John 9:2 – 3)

(4) To keep your pride level down as was the case with apostle Paul himself (for your own good):

“Because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, for this reason, to keep me from exalting myself, there was given me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to torment me– to keep me from exalting myself!” (2 Corinthians 5:7)

We may not know which of these reasons or others is applicable to one’s sickness or disability but God knows and He will reveal it with proof & truth one day.

What’s the ‘right attitude’ towards it?

The point is to “endure it rightly” with the ‘right attitude’ and if you succeed, you may gain rewards for it (which others ‘may not be entitled to’ since they didn’t go through these sufferings).
